Is reading the Bible as easy as everyone makes it sound?
If you don’t care a whole lot about understanding what you read, then yes, our modern translations make it easy. But going beyond reading to actually comprehending what the Bible means can be a frustrating experience, especially when it feels like everyone has a different interpretation. This sacred text that we’re supposed to love, cherish and want to study can instead feel tedious and overwhelming. If you feel that way, you’re totally normal. Also, you don’t have to feel that way forever.
Join us this summer for a crash course in biblical hermeneutics (that’s a fancy word for interpretation). We’ll explore the basics of what the Bible is (and isn’t), the big story it’s telling, the various literary styles it contains, and it’s cultural/historical context. We’ll also touch on why Christians arrive at such different conclusions about what the Bible says and how we can navigate those differences.
If you’re ready to go beyond reading the Bible to understanding what you read, this class is the perfect place to start!
We’ll be meeting for 2 weeks in July, the 19th and the 26th at 7 PM. Childcare will be available, registration is required. Click the link here to sign up!
